In Tolyatti, a beer has been popular. Actually very popular. Stores offer many varieties and even more brands – regional, national and international.
One of the most favourite beers in Tolyatti is produced in local microbrewery “Horlbat”. It is named after the Canadian brew-master, Harvey Hurlbut, who came to Tolyatti in 1993 to assist with a beer brewing.
The brewery consists from several buildings located near the forest. The most frequented building is the one where couple of brewery employees keep filling the bottles and serving the customers. There is no place to sit and enjoy the beer, everyone comes uniquely for “take-away” beer.
The beer “Horlbat” is brewed using traditional Czech procedure and Canadian equipment. The main components are malt, yeast, hops and water. All the ingredients are natural. Malt, hops and yeast are specially imported from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It is unpasteurised and that is why it is called “live” beer. Its shelf life is not more than 14 days at a temperature of 2 to 7 degrees.
The brewery currently produces four kinds of beer:
- light beer 10% and 12%
- dark beer 12%
- unfiltered wheat light beer 12%
In addition to the brewery sales point at headquarters on Banykina 13 (map), you should get the freshly draught beer on Frunze (bus stop “Detskiy Park” in the area of the SC Rus nad Volgoy) and on Lva Yashina 5A (opposite the SC Madagascar). The “Horlbat” is available in many bars and stores around the city as well. All places are open from 10:00 to 21:00.
Information were mostly taken from Horlbat official website.
